Sports Concussions Are A Type Of Traumatic Brain Injury

Andy was uncertain where he was. The clouds are starting to clear. Slowly. That ringing in his ear, which he has heard before, was persisting though. Andy didn’t know whether he was standing up or lying down. â€Å"That’s right, I’m standing† Andy now realizes as he sees his cleats on the turf. Andy slowly recognizes Mitch and his other teammates. Andy has been an offensive tackle since junior high school. His athletic build was genetically passed down from his father and was perfect for football. Andy is agile and quick. And he has learned the game quite well. Andy has been a starter for the offensive line for Minnesota State for the last 3 years. Andy, however, occasional receives a blow to the head during the course of a game, or even from a practice or an off season workout, which creates some mental fogginess. But it always clears. Sports concussions have an estimated incidence of 3.8 million per year in the U.S. which represents a significant public health issue[2]. Approximately 50% of sports concussions may be unreported.
